"Accidental Renovation" is pretty much your run of the mill "punk/emo/hardcore/metal" band. That's how Caldwell describes themselves on a certain portion of their MySpace page. In other words, they sound like almost every other band that screams and sings.
One of the first things I noticed while listening to this in my car is how well the album is mixed. I know some may think it's a small thing, but albums where I can't hear every instrument plus the vocals are always annoying.
Vocalist Randy Baublis does a nice job when it comes to screaming, but his singing is average at best. Caldwell's strong point is the ability to add some variety to their brand of music. An acoustic breakdown and the addition of an instrumental track helped the record not become monotonous. Aside from that, Caldwell has everything else you'd expect them to have. Group vocals, metal riffs, and heavy breakdowns. Basically, if "punk/emo/hardcore/metal" is your piece of pie, then Caldwell is right up your alley. If you aren't into metalcore, "Accidental Renovation" isn't nearly unique or groundbreaking enough to warrant a listen.
