Get Ready
Reviewed by Doug Van Pelt
Also previously released (1980) on Polydor Records is "Get Ready" by Darrell Mansfield. This album includes tunes that are still standards in Darrell's concerts today, like "Heaven Southwestern" and "Get Ready." Some of the guitar tones reek of an earlier time, but the songs certainly stand up on their own. While this album is a rockin' hard, some of the best cuts are the midtempo numbers, like "Above the Water" and "Billy Joe," which really has the classic Southern rock dual guitar attack sound. The three new, bonus cuts added are all pretty much slow, adult contemporary fare. The one tune where the entire album stands up and cuts loose is "Heaven Southwestern." It's got all the momentum of a locomotive and is one of those timeless cuts that'll get a crowd moving any night of the week.
