Ok. There are actually 2 ratings for this one. For the first couple of times I listened to it, it was about a 3. But after a couple spins, it rocketed itself up to a 10. Why? Well, let's start off with my first impression of this band. I loved their song on the Blessed Be This Killing comp. (put out by Deadself as well) When I first heard this CD, I said to myself "WOW, they are really bad." They seemed like a typical noise band. Really off-the-wall vocals, bad production, and some really crappy music. It sounded like they were together for about a week and decided to record some improv. Well, after listening to it a couple more times, I realized something. The vocals aren't off-the-wall. They are filled with emotion and power. You can sense that the vocalist is completely giving his all and that by the end of the CD he will seriously give up his right to speak, just so the message will be heard. Also, I realized that there is nothing wrong with the production. Well, it still sounds like it needs help, but they meant it to sound like that. After listening to a completely amazing and well put-together comp. like BBTK, there is no way Deadself would let the production slip. As for the music, it's just amazing. The breakdowns and the riffs just boggle my mind. To the untrained ear, they sound like the guitarists just got their guitars. But to those who have heard good metal/hardcore before, the guitars just completely shred. Experienced listeners can sense the top-notch musicianship in this album. And about them playing improv, if improv sounded this good, I would be a jazz aficionado.
