"Headfirst Straight to Hell" is Grade's latest release on Victory Records.
Like a fine stew, Grade has it all. Their sound encompasses many genres and is wonderfully unique. I was thinking that this CD would sound a lot like their last full length, "Under The Radar," but they have changed things a bit while still holding onto their foundational sound. Each song is different and because of this, the CD doesn't drag by but races. Heavy at times, but yet also very melodic, Grade combines tight leads, catchy breakdowns, and great bass lines with great song writing.
The whole overall package is great. Each song on the record can stand by itself and once it gets into your head, it won't get out. One of my favorite songs on the CD is an instrumental called "The Empress." It's a soft lilting melody that is perfect for a hot summer afternoon drive in the car.
The cover art is a bit provocative and apparently got the record banned at Best Buy stores. The whole album is very impressive and if you are sick of hardcore clones or just stale music in general you might want to look into Grade. Look for an interview coming up with Grade on Decapolis in early fall.
