Wow! I'm impressed. Before even popping this disc in to listen to I found the packaging to be very eye pleasing. The recording on this split EP was done by Matt Goldman (Denison Marrs, Luxury, Annie), so already I knew that this disc would be of excellent sonic quality. Out of the two bands represented here Copeland is easily my favorite. Copeland reminds me a lot of Denison Marrs, and this is not at all a bad thing (nor is it surprising considering the band lives in close proximity to Denison Marrs and was recorded by Goldman). Copeland play dreamy melodic rock with hooks and excellent vocals. It's always a big plus for me when a band has good bass tone and thick guitars and Copeland delivers. The second track, "May I Have This Dance" is the ballad your sweetheart will love. "Second Star And To The Left" turns up the rock a couple more notches than the previous two offerings.
Next up is Pacifico. While this band is very good at their craft I found their vocals to be a little annoying. I can't think of any thing to call Pacifico but catchy pop-rock. Unfortunately this band just doesn't do it for me. That's not to say they aren't worth checking out though. Overall Theory8 has put out a quality release and I'm excited to see what this label and the band Copeland have to offer in the future.
