Wow, for MTX this is different. Actually, over the past few releases they have kind of been heading this way. Basically this is a pop rock album, they have lost a lot of the punk influence and added a hammond organ to many of the songs, and used other non-punk instruments such as a piano and a trumpet (and no, they didn't use the trumpet like ska bands do). Overall I thought the CD was pretty good, although their last two CDs are still my favorite two MTX discs.
I really dug the first track, it definitely seemed to highlight the sarcasm-with-a-hint-of-truth that seems make MTX's lyrics so clever. Here's a sample of lyrics from the first song on the CD, "I Wrote A Book About Rock and Roll." "I don't really care about your crappy local band. Don't you tell me I can't tell you what to do. I can, on the whole, cause I work for a magazine and I wrote a book about rock and roll ... Take a look at all these CDs, no one has more than me, and I got all of them for free. Hey, thanks for the free CD, I can sell it at the store down the block."
The second song kind of scared me. At least the beginning of the song reminded me of the Black Crowes, barf... If you're down with the rock, the pop, or Dr. Frank (frontman from MTX) and his songwriting then I think you will like this CD. I liked it, just not as much as some of their other stuff.
