From what I hear, The Ziggens have been around since 1986 but I have never heard about them before receiving their album. The Ziggens is a four piece so-cal "surf-punk" band and their new self titled album (cornerstone R.A.S.) is their seventh release in a 17 year music career.
I can't really describe the Ziggens sound. They are a mix of The Beach Boys, The Ramones, The Specials and a dash of stupid humor and immaturity. I really don't get it at all. They just got plain annoying after a while. For the most part, the lyrics seem like something a junior higher would write. The album does have a few good songs like "Pistol Pete" but when a band tries to combine 10 different genres of music, they usually come out sounding pathetic, especially when the band really doesn't have anything important to say. You would think that with a band with forty year old men that they would have more to share with the world other than stories of a man with a pushed in face or how they get yelled at a lot at work. When time comes around to say something serious it just seems to get wasted in the dull humor.
I didn't like the sound. I didn't like the songs. I didn't like this album.
