Breaking in an Angel is Red Animal War's debut release on Deep Elm Records. The bands music falls outside of what I generally listen to. That being said, I feel a little unqualified to review it. I have no qualms with classifying them as an emo band. It has that post-hardcore/post-punk sound that most likely will be completely unpopular with the Dashboard/Saves the Day crowd. Personally, while this will probably never wind up on my playlist anytime soon, this is a very nice record. "Breaking in an Angel" is a melodic effort, the vocals compliment the music in a very nice way, and the mixture of hardcore influences fits quite well. If you want melodic music with sporadic timing, hardcore sensibilities, and a strong lyrical edge, Red Animal War is for you.
