Out of southern California comes a new rock outfit called Rock Kills Kid. After spending time in other local so-cal bands, the members of RKK got together in 2001. After a year or so of being together, RKK were able to release a self-titled EP on Fearless records. RKK is a lot different from what I expected them to be...especially because they are coming out of the so-cal scene. I had never heard of the band before and I either expected a really bad punk band or a sub-par metal band but I didn't receive either.
In a time where it mostly seems that everything that is melodic driving rock is being called "emo" and everything seems to be unoriginal, RKK tries their best to be set apart from the group. They use rock in a way that seems to be non existent in today's scene. It's not boring, it's not pointless, it's not stuck up, it's not sappy, it's not over my head and it's not shallow. It is just right. It's nice to hear a fresh voice in rock. Good lyrics, good structure, good recording and just a good EP.
It's just good straight up melodic rock with a taste of punk rock. It is a record that you would love to listen to in the spring time on a drive with the windows down.
