Roger Dale Martin
Speed Thrash Bass Guitar Video
Reviewed by Doug Van Pelt
The man who "hammers down" for Vengeance Rising has decided to clue in all prospective bass players how to do it - fast. (Tablature with explanatory drawings is included) He takes about 20 licks and walks through them with an explanation, a normal (fast) performance, and a slowed-down performance, so one can see how it's done close up. It's "down home" and personal, which might make for a more casual learning experience. It looks like the entire session was shot in one take, instead of editing together perfect takes; leaving pauses and instructions of, "Zoom in on my picking hand, honey," to his wife. You can even hear a phone ring and their baby cry at one point. So, you can see it's not the slick extravaganza that a record or musical equipment company might put out, but it gets the job done. At the end of the video Roger stops and shares a little bit from the Word, concerning where he's coming from as a player and a person - which adds another dimension to the package, making it a ministry tool for your lost bass player buddies.
