With this 4-song cassette, recorded in March of 1990, England gives us a new speed metal band that knows how to play! Unlike (too) many acts in this category, Seventh Angel is actually quite adept musically. The sound is very close to that of D.R.I. - fast 'n' heavy with good, plodding parts thrown in at times. Rhythmically this band is very tight, with tough, "growly" vocals. And vocalist Ian Arklen is also the talented lead guitarist. Rad!! The opening song, "Forbidden Desires", really sticks in my mind due to its very aggressive rhythm. Right in the middle it goes into a very technical guitar solo section with a really dreamy backup music while fast double-bass drumming alone carries the rhythm. The second track, "Seven Angels", exemplifies one of thrash metal's highest callings - the Revelation!! "I of the Needle" has a really solemn and creative soft guitar and vocal part much like old J. Priest or Iron Maiden at the end. The final cut, "Heed the Warning", is a literal trip through the land of speed metal with good time changes, ending in a bell toll! This tape is classic in that the musicianship is really there. Clean production completes it, and even the package is intimidating. Excellent.
