Stand on the Rock

I find this tape very appealing. With obvious Rob Halford/Josh Kramer influences in some vocal parts and immaculate Michael Sweet-type impressions in others (!), Ohio-based L.O.U.D. dispenses melodic rock along the lines of Kiss or Scorpions, and very well at that. These three guys' (plus two keyboardists for the recordings) talent and musical coherence are showcased through these nine songs, featuring a few neo-traditional hymns ("In the Garden", "Amazing Grace", and "Holy, Holy Lord" - yes, the one Sacred Warrior did, but different), but not forgetting/discrediting the other six tracks - all cool originals. The opener, "Follow Him", is a strong, driving song...the kind you walk around singing ("Follow Him...because He died for you...Follow Him...He was crucified for you...He died for you"). I've been hooked on that song since the first listen. My only concern is occasionally flat vocals on the chorus (likely to be because of limited studio time). Even L.O.U.D.'s glossy insert is worthy of note; all lyrics are printed clearly, and credited are many Christian organizations in their locality, as well as there being information about them as a ministry, and even a prayer hotline in bold print!
