Soiled Doves is defunct; the band ended in 2001. They were from Seattle and featured members of the Blood Brothers and the Chromatics. Primary commitments to those bands kept Soiled Doves on the shelf. "Soiled Life" is the product of the band's one recording session and was released in 2003. This album falls into the post-punk category and features snotty, chaotic vocals laid over chaotic music. To be forthright, it does not really stand out in any way. Of course, two years ago, when this was recorded, it probably would have been cutting edge material. The lack of a lyric sheet is annoying, as there is no way of knowing if they were saying anything of significance (and I did not want to take the time to transcribe the lyrics). Also, the layout makes it look like this CD was released by five-year-olds (especially the words written with what appears to be "draw" function in Microsoft Paint); perhaps that is what they were going for, but it just looks tacky.
