Caramba! This second mini LP from THE LEAD takes the hide off you in passing!! (A pity it is a bit short...) If the first of the line, "Automoloch", was, in short, thrash-rock'n rolling, this one is outright hardcore/grindcore, the two favourite flavours of the little budding moshers... and even of the fully ripened ones!!

But, my word, the vocalist-bassist and the screamer-guitar man are worse than scalp hunters (hide your manes!!)!!! With their muscular howlings, stoked by their sparkling musical furnace, they give the impression of turning into merciless cleavers. But what are they chasing after? After the abomination that men inflict on God by spitting in His face, knowingly or not. Besides, this trio of flayers does not deny itself the pleasure of grabbing religion by the collar and tearing off its scales of cut-price virtue ("No Religion"): they do not do religion, let that be passed along in the honeycombs, God remaining the only one to arm their perseverance as cleaners-up. In muddy gurglings from the bottom of the pit, surging from their vocal abysses, they hunt down the Beast and cut off its retreat clean by sacking the lies with which it poisons humans ("He Won't Take A Joke").

They also stuff on the spot the retro and militant puritanism ("Puritan"), purring grindcoreously that the true Soldiers of Christ know how to stay faithful to Him, without having to crown themselves with phoney purism to gild their breastplate. In a salvo of howls that really tear, the band of heavenly madmen cries out against the long-haired young rascals wearing blinkers ("Tunnel Vision"): indeed, who has not already seen on some studded chest the slogan "Jesus died for his own sins not for mine". Well, all those who display the thing that way, or keep it hermetically cast in their brains, must correct their aim... Jesus took all the sins of all upon Himself, He is not elitist ("Jesus Became Sin"). But to orchestrate such beats, these tousled bloodhounds have no need of a net, because their hardcore breaks loose in showers of chromatic arrows that deliver you the coup de grâce... a divine one!! So, who will be the first game bird to dare leave a feather there...?!!

HM Magazine #114Reviewed by Chris M. ShortJim Reid sang, “I was just a teenage Jesus freak / Got drunk on punk and then I found my feet.” Yeah. In the mid-80s, I was all about punk rock (what is now called “80s hardcore”), and being a misfit in rural Minnesota. The sound and fury was the perfect release for my teenage rage at the jocks, the social elite, and the parental dictatorship. While the spit-strewn anthems of “secular” hardcore…
