Iowa's Liberty Oil Co. got the rights to three new songs from the Merbabies (Chris Bowden on guitar and vocals, Matt Wignall on bass guitar, and Erick Nieto on drums), and released them on old-style black 7" vinyl, poly-bagged with extremely attractive packaging and a photograph / lyric sheet insert. Titled Some Friends, side A features "Worn and Tired," a hopeful lament with wistful, reverberating stanzas and a garish chorus -- wonderful song progression. Side B presents "Good to Me" -- a rustic melody carried by modern distortion and thoughtful, deeper-than-they-first-appear lyrics -- and "Hooray for You" -- a short, sarcastically melancholy ditty with the line, "Hooray for you / You won the war / You crucified the Jew / Hooray for you."
