The Warning
Repent or Die
Reviewed by Doug Van Pelt
Available for $6 from: Radicals For Christ. 124 S. Lemmon, Azusa, CA 91702. The title alone makes you wanna buy it, doesn't it? How 'bout if you knew it was speed metal with a hardcore, or should I say Godcore, twist to it? This tape will thrash, trash, stomp, romp and ravage even the gnarliest pair of ears. Wait 'til you hear the lineup! On bass is Tim Hagelganz. Recognize him? He plays bass for Stryper. This is one of the things he did during his time off from the band, as well as work at a local music store. On lead vocals is Radical's own Burrito. He's been real active in the radical music scene in Southern Cal. On rip-roaring lead guitar is Tracy Grijalva. Tracy used to play with Swift Kick, which won the MTV Basement Tapes award in '84. All this skill is combined into a musical form that the casual listener may think no skill is required to play. Wrong. Closer listen will show intricate guitar work and jazz influences. Don't let that scare you off! This music is "beat you over the head"-type stuff. Check it out! Look for more news on The Warning in the future. Yes, they will have a new bassist in the future...and a drummer to boot! This tape's been played on lots of college stations. If you'd like the phone and address of a college station in your area, write to Radicals For Christ.
