Straight out of Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, New Jersey comes a new rock band called Theory of Racquetball. They have proclaimed themselves as the "world's greatest theological rock band." I really don't know what that is supposed to mean but hey...to each their own. This self titled release is their debut record on Jerk Records.
The press release I received for this album compared TOR to mixing Pedro the Lion, The Velvet Underground, MC5 and the Ramones. I don't know how someone would mix all those bands together to make music that would sound coherent and plus I really didn't hear any of those bands in this recording. They might have tried to hint at some of their influences but nothing really stood out. Overall I found this band semi-original but somewhat annoying and at times just boring. The vocals are like the vocals from the band Vroom but just really whiney. The music is rather mundane and just nothing special.
I don't know where this band falls into the music genre world. It certainly didn't fall into any of my personal preferences. The recording was sub-par. The music was uninviting. This album isn't really worth the time of listening.
