Jazz Trio produced by Tchad Blake (Soul Coughing, Peter Gabriel, Elvis Costello, Paul McCartney) releases debut on Columbia Records.
This record is awesome! The Bad Plus are a jazz trio that utilizes piano, upright bass and drums. I've been trying to expand my tastes a bit by getting into some jazz and this is some pretty cool stuff. The Bad Plus have even recorded an interesting cover of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" which is arresting. The band also offers up Blondie and Aphex Twin covers. This disc is almost worth the 11 bucks I paid for it for the Nirvana and Blondie covers alone. The original material recorded by this trio is equally compelling. The production on These Are The Vistas is of course gorgeous given who produced it. This sounds sonically like I would expect a great jazz record to sound like. Not being an accomplished jazz connoisseur I can't do this much justice but I know I really like what I hear. Get this now!
