Victory Records New Jersey's Thursday debuts on Victory with second full length "Full Collapse." Their first full length "Waiting" was released on Eyeball records.
Thursday has many elements to their sound that keeps the listener guessing and does not bore. Blurring the lines between emo, hardcore, and punk, "Full Collapse" is not your typical cookie cutter, formula rock. The sound of Thursday is loud and tough at some points, while soft and technical at others. I like the fact that labeling their sound is pointless. What's the use? The music is very dynamic and unique. Just when you think you know them the music cuts away to simple playing quiet notes on the guitar to over-the-top screaming with a rapid pace. While I liked the music, the vocals didn't cut it. For the most part, they seem to be sung from the throat and not the gut, which creates a high, breathy sound that is hard on the ear by the third song. The occasional scream of the back up vocalist helps to break things up, but for the most part, the vocals take away from a really good musical presentation. The layout is cool and the recording good. The lyrics are fairly typical, dealing with frustration and mentioning rain in a majority of the songs. While I found the music to be a good blend of several different sounds, the vocals interrupt and cause distraction.
