The guys in Weeping Prophet offer a dark and heavy sound--even on the slower tunes. The band displays variety in styles, tempos, and even moods. Yet, toward the end of this tape, it seems as if they are trying to squeeze too much into each song and the syncopated rhythms become slightly predictable. Their first song is dark with a Doors-like break and smooth transitions between tempos and moods. However, toward the fourth song, the first tempo and mood change is less pleasing when alluded to in small, sporadic and alarming bursts. This musical effort starts out interesting and almost involving, yet it soon becomes too busy. It seems they are trying to show how they can perform as musicians rather than considering the moods and attitudes each song conveys (and what emotional/musical feel the songs want to portray). I can't see someone sitting down and listening to the whole thing "as is." If these guys simplify some of the songs and gain a more specific musical focus for each song, they will have an interesting and listener-friendly product.
