Elliott is a Louisville, Kentucky, emo band formed in 1995 after the breakup of Falling Forward. The early records worked within emo's slow-to-midtempo range, but the guitars favored melodic lines over sustained chords, while Chris Higdon's vocals were sometimes blurred into a roomy, hall-like ambience. If They Do, issued on Initial Records in 1999, captured that transitional sound, with songs recorded years apart and production that could obscure Higdon's voice. On False Cathedrals, the band moved to Revelation Records and expanded the framework with piano and electronic beats beneath harmonic vocals; driving guitars still arrived to break open the softer passages. Song in the Air pushed further toward indie rock, using layered atmosphere and string arrangements while its guitar lines made the music feel larger than its lyrics.

In 2003, Elliott announced its breakup after Jason Skaggs left and Billy Bisig took over bass; the band completed final US and European tours before disbanding in November. Revelation Records followed with Photorecording in 2005, a post-breakup collection pairing live and unreleased material with a documentary about the band's history and final tour. Chris Higdon then fronted Frontier(s), while other former members continued in Louisville projects and recording roles. Elliott returned to the stage in 2022, nearly two decades after the breakup, and mounted a US headline tour in 2025.
