I have never been able to listen to a hardcore/post-hardcore record and say it was "fun", or that it was a "fun" listen. I have used that term when describing The Queers or The Huntingtons, but I have rarely used that term when describing a post-hardcore/hardcore band.
Enter: Dallas, TX's A Faith Called Chaos, and I can use that term freely, but it is much more than "fun." With just under half of the band still in high school, this band has garnered so much attention that Alternative Press has sponsored them for the upcoming Warped Tour. Forgive Nothing is a mix of screaming vocals, guitar solos that were best heard in 80's metal bands, and driving drum parts and bass lines. When I say 80's metal bands I am not talking about Iron Maiden. Their guitar parts are more in tune with Motley Crue, Guns 'N' Roses, and Hanoi Rocks. This album not only is saturated in metal riffs and screaming vocals but there is also a ton of catchy melody lines; which drew me in.
The band does a great job at balancing the screaming vocals and the singing vocals, so that one doesn't drown out the other. Although the songs are very short, which is a good thing, at times the album can drag and it is hard to differentiate one song from the next towards the end of the record. The music tends to get muddled up and the vocals start sounding the same.
Anyhow, this is an enjoyable record and a strong debut. If you are looking for a good time, then pick this up.
