I'm pleased to announce that Christianity finally has a credible counterpart to the Violent Femmes! Those who are familiar with the VF's know about their hair-raising songs about the nature of Christ--thrown in among 8 or 9 songs about depression, sex, or general mistrust. Well, let me tell you, you need to get your hands on this, a thoughtfully-produced June 1990 custom release of four songs: "Drowning", a 60's-ish sounding tune, sorta VF-ish, but with more focus; "Sin Of The World", played with guitar distortion (!); "Faith In A Glass"; and "Silver Lining", a relaxing, but informative piece which features mystical harmony vocals as in the style of Whitecross on "Simple Man" and Simon And Garfunkel on "Scarborough Fair". I really can appreciate Appian Way--unafraid to be weird, but never arrogant. Hopefully this collector's item will be followed with bigger releases of this intellectually-oriented quartet.
