Wow! What a way to say goodbye. Bloodgood, along with German Heaven's Metal distributor Matthias Mittelstadt, recorded their hot set on DAT machine for this (very) limited edition compact disc (990 numbered copies). This is more or less an official bootleg, yet the sonics fair no worse than the two live discs released by Frontline three years ago.
It's hard to compare Bloodgood tours with each other. Who could forget the killer Detonation tour in 1987? Album-wise, though, this is the best material that the band has toured with. Armed with five tunes off their All Stand Together album, this unit (consisting of Paul Jackson on guitar, Paul Rorabech on drums, Michael Bloodgood on bass, David McKay on keys and Les Carlson on vocals) delivers a tight and excellent performance. The band rips through "Kingdom Come," "Heaven on Earth" and "Let My People Go" before taking a breath. The band was clicking this night. The audience, being fully into the band, certainly helped keep the energy level up.
Rorabech's double bass drumming sounds good and crisp in "Self-Destruction," which propels him into a solo mid-song. Some of the imperfections of a "real" live recording show up here, including the ad-lib of an impromptu worship cheer at the end of "Escape From the Fire" and the microphone feedback during "I Want to Live in Your Heart." There's an invitation to accept Jesus complete with German translation during the concert mainstay "Messiah" (following, of course, the energized and dramatic "Crucify").
With only 990 copies floating around out there and the early Bloodgood catalog already out of print, this release is a definite must to have for the Bloodgood fan. What a great way to go out!
