If you were a fan of The Daniel Band, then you're gonna love the debut disc by Dreamer, which features former Daniel Band vocalist/bassist Dan McCabe. All of the songs are of the commercial vein, with only one mellow song--"Thank You Lord". The rest are straight ahead Hard Rock cuts, similar to Daniel Band. That's the main problem with this disc. It sounds way too much like The Daniel Band. Don't get me wrong, this is a really good disc. The production is top notch, the songwriting is good, and the musicianship is excellent, but nothing at all really stands out. It almost seems like Dreamer made it a point to sound like Daniel Band. I was really hoping that, after five albums with The Daniel Band, that Dan McCabe would go out on the limb and do something different one way or the other: either soft praise music, or blow my socks off with an ultra-heavy band. But, instead I guess he opted to stay in the comfort zone and play music he felt safe playing. The Daniel Band was a great band, an innovator in Christian metal, but their music was for the 80's. This is the 90's, and with so much diversity in Christian music, it's really a shame to see a great band going back instead of moving ahead. I'll definitely pick this disc up when it hits the stores, but I doubt it'll get played more than once.
