Blues with a Feelin'
Reviewed by Doug Van Pelt
This project by Darrell and longtime guitarist Eric Turner is best described as "Trimmed And Burnin' Part Two." The guitars do get electric here, like in the blistering "Nobody's Fault But Mine" (the ole' Blind Willy Johnson tune that Led Zeppelin covered 15 years ago), but the album as a whole is a genuine Blues album. There's no stompin' heavy metal goin' on, but if you want to taste the roots of metal, here it is. Interesting covers include "Stand By Me", which is another ole Gospel song that a secular artist made a hit out of, and "People Get Ready". Each performance on this disc smells of sweat in the studio. This music finds Darrell at home, but this is just another slice of his diverse musical pie. Let's hear ya smoke David Coverdale next, Darrell?!
