the last couple good riddance albums, while good, have left a bit to be desired. i must admit i was never terribly fond of sean seller's drumming, but now they have a new drummer and seem to be back on track. in fact, this record comes close to the wonders of their first few. they continue to expand their sound (which previously included the melodic hardcore most have come to expect from fat wreck chords as well as a good dose of new york hardcore) to include a fair dose of black flag style weird guitar playing. the combination of styles works pretty well for them. lyrically they seem to be returning more to the socio-political angle of their first album and eps, which is fine by me. as a whole i'd say good riddance has returned to their earlier style, while including additional musical aspects. now if only they'd play around here again...
