Where their first record's novelty wore off quick, turning into an incohesive and boring feast after only a couple listens, the Woolen Spires has the potential to grow on the listener. Lo-Fi, yet more accessible than their previous songs, they create a unique twist on pop music, taking the traditional pop song and adding scholarly words and surprising elements of feedback and noise. Fans of the Elephant 6 coterie (Neutral Milk Hotel, Olivia Tremor Control, Beulah, Apples in Stereo, etc.) will find this a worthy addition to their collection, as will anyone with an open mind for something quirky and different.
