Kill Your Idols has been kicking around the New York hardcore scene for quite some time, while Crime In Stereo have only one full length to their credit. With just over ten minutes worth of music on this split, there is hardly room for a monumental review of epic proportions.
The Kill Your Idols' half of the split is typical KYI's material, with two new tracks 'From XLII To UR90' and 'Why Can't I?'. It also contains a cover song by Sheer Terror, 'Time Don't Heal A Thing'.
It is almost like a torch being passed from the veterans KYI to the newer face of the NYHC scene Crime In Stereo, who sounds like early H2O or a less polished Lagwagon. Crime In Stereo's half of the split provide the more memorable moments, with the outstanding track 'It Ain't All Hugs and Handshakes' to the sub-minute 'Twice Daily To Prevent Nausea'.
Crime In Stereo is able to deliver melody without sacrificing aggression or passion. They remind me of a pop-punk band fascinated with hardcore. Unfortunately, Kill Your Idols' sound on this record seems tired compared to previous efforts, especially when stacked against Crime In Stereo.
