When I read that this album was co-produced by Relient K's Matt Thiessen and Joe Marlett (Blink 182, Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters), I was hardly surprised. Last Tuesday plays the type of pop/punk that is totally tired and old.
At least that's what I thought the first time I listened to Resolve.
Upon further inspection, I saw the good natured fun of Last Tuesday. They blend fun sounding pop punk like Relient K with dueling vocal sounds similar to a mix between Taking Back Sunday and fellow Mono Vs Stereo members, The Evan Anthem. As I write this, I realize that such a mixture doesn't sound like it would be very good, but with Last Tuesday's charm, their songs are just likeable. Last Tuesday doesn't have the best singers and they don't write the best songs, nor do they even have a lot of originality, but they make up what they lack in originality with fun and catchy sing-along-songs.
Lyrically, Last Tuesday writes gems about the fact that, without God, we have no resolve to succeed. Other themes about redemption and overall dependence on God are described as well.
I see Resolve becoming the summer anthem of youth group kids, while having a respectable sound that allows anyone to listen to it without making them feel like a seventh grader.
