Overdrive returns with a 4-song collection of real heavy tunes. A standout cut is "Light A Candle For Me", a moving epic about the Lord's last moments on earth, and His admonition to let your light shine before men. These five dudes have recorded (on 24 track) an above-average power metal offering. Lyrically, Overdrive expresses its urgency for the lost to be found. I think the band has made a grave mistake in the lyrics of the song "When The 'Saints' Go Marching In (To Hell)". It's easy to see that the point they're making is about people who say they are Christians but don't know God--they will depart and burn in hell. But, there are going to be no saints in hell! A saint is an adopted child of God, the bride of Christ. To say that a saint is going to hell is a contradiction in terms. That's like saying "the church is apostate." What an apostate statement! The "church" is a term we use too loosely (and "saint" too in this case). We ought to remember that there is a remnant on this earth, the bride of Christ, a holy nation. She has been justified and entrusted with the Holy Spirit. God lives in this bride. She ain't gonna go to hell, so don't say that she is. What would a non-believer think upon hearing "When the saints go marching into hell?" What kind of signal does that send? (Gosh, I can't ever remember elaborating this much on a lyric that I disagreed with. I guess I'm real sensitive about the church--She's getting attacked so much lately.)
