P.O.D.
Payable On Death
Reviewed by Jeff Gish
Boy O' Boy, can these guys kick it. P.O.D. (Payable on Death) combines hip-hop with a real hardcore edge, to create a kind of hip-hopcore sound that is certainly theirs alone. P.O.D. confesses and professes the power of Christ loudly, proudly and without fear, while their music boils with string bending riffs, only to shift into a hip-hop beat bridge, then leap back to that new hip-hopcore sound. Postive messages abount in this tape. "P.O.D. Theme Song" is just one example: "You can bow now or find out later, Holmes..." "Let the Lord run with your heart." An otherwise brilliant tape has only one flaw: needs better sound production, but that comes with time, effort and money. Indeed, P.O.D. is proud of their name, and rightly so, 'cause their sound is definitely speaker blowin', Jesus promotin', hip-hopcore at its finest.
