Well Reggie and the Full Effects is made up of members of both the Get Up Kids and Coalesce. With that in mind you can probably guess that the title of the CD is a joke. These fellows were probably in elementary or middle school during that time, listening to Michael Jackson, Madonna, and the other pop stars of that era. I suppose this is what would be considered a type of all star band, but Reggie and the Full Effects does not sound much at all like either of the two bands their members are in. Maybe a little bit like the Get Up Kids at times but not really. Reggie is basically a guitar driven pop band, with a bunch of keyboards that help to complement the melodies of these catchy songs. Most of the songs are about girls, actually I think all of them are about girls. Favorites of mine include, "Girl, Why'd You Run Away?", "What's Wrong", "Megan is My Friend to the Max", and "Your Boyfriend Hates Me" They are not doing anything really original here, but what they are doing they do well. In terms of comparisons, I hear a definite Weezer influence, maybe a bit of the Juliana Theory(not that they would be an influence), and other power pop bands. Ok, now the very annoying thing about this CD is that the band members, and I suppose many of their friends, say, or sing stupid stuff on this CD between most of the songs, which gets really annoying. What they are saying isn't even funny, its just annoying. I really wish the band left all that trash off the CD, because it just slows down the pace of the CD and gets on my nerves. So here is my opinion. Go out, buy this CD, especially if you have a CDR burner. This way you can just re-record all these really great pop songs onto a new CD, leaving out all the clips that are between the songs, because none of them are funny anyway. I guess many of the clips are inside jokes or something, with bad language, things probably only their friends think are funny. So don't get me wrong here, the songs are really great tunes. Especially if you are into the whole guitar pop sounds, with great vocals, and nice melodies.
