Another Canadian band is crashing through the borders and into the hands of Victory Records. Silverstein is the latest visitor from the great white north to expose themselves to our watered down scene of late and try to kick up some attention. It's hard to pinpoint the type of music that Silverstein plays but it is very recognizable and the best way I can describe it is poppy "emo" mixed with screaming. The only problem that confronts this band is that their style of music has become one of the newest fads and is being produced and copied so many times over that it is hard to find the really talented bands in all the mayhem.

With bands like Finch and Beloved as a comparison to Silverstein, it is very easy to see the problem that confronts them. Trying to be unique and noticed in a sea of a million fishes that look and smell just like you. When I first started to listen to Silverstein's new album "When Broken Is Easily Fixed", I got frustrated and I didn't want to listen to another disappointing band jumping on the band wagon. My initial thoughts were overcome quickly as I became quite impressed by the talent that this band possesses. Good lyrics, good vocals (only the screaming sounds like the lead singer of Grade), great production and great musical talent. It isn't mindless overused garbage. I wish they had a little more separation in their sound between them and the rest of the pack but that will only come with time and experience. They have got a way to go still but they are a mile ahead of the rest of the pack.
