The Commercials are probably one of the hardest working bands I know. I have seen this band many times, often opening up for the larger bands that come through my area. Often the shows are even set up by Tony, the guitarist for the Commercials. I think I see Tony at more shows than anyone else I ever see at shows. If his band isn't playing he is handing out flyers for his bands next show.
The band has gone through many changes over the years and have seemed to really hit their peak...or at least are at their best yet. With "20 Years Tonight" the Commercials have put together an album that blows away anything they have ever recorded. I think what really makes this album stand out is the presence of a new singer. Their long time singer is still there, but a new voice has joined in and really adds to a band that always seemed to be lacking vocally. I sure hope this new vocalist sticks with them.
Probably the biggest downfall of this release is that in many ways it seems to be a copy of what other bands in the punk rock/emo scene are doing. You have your more mellow songs, your more punk based songs and even a few songs that at times have an almost hardcore vibe to them. But overall this is a solid release. I have a feeling this album will get the band the attention they deserve and have worked so hard for.
