The Cry
What It Means To Be
Reviewed by Maury Millican
The Cry is another Austin band rising up to shamelessly and creatively proclaim the gospel of existential Christianity. The Cry's six-song debut, What It Means To Be, offers a passionate and moving performance. While hints of U2 and The Alarm signal The Cry's musical influences, What It Means To Be maintains its own unique musical integrity. The strong point of the recording is the consistency of musical and lyrical themes expressed throughout the project. Each song builds upon The Cry's concern for genuine and meaningful spirituality. Sonically, each song compliments the next, and gradually reveals the musicianship of the whole band. The vocal performance by Chris Wright is particularly impressive. One listen to What It Means To Be leaves the hearer craving more. We'll be hearing more from this band, and I especially look forward to their next recording!
