Featuring former members of Cursive, The White Octave's previous release "Style NO. 6312" is on Deep Elm Records. This is the band's first release on Initial Records.
In short, The White Octave are reaching for a sound already achieved by At The Drive-In. It is the same style of loud and seemingly-sloppy-but-in-a-good-way post hardcore-indie tossed rock and roll. While there are interesting guitar lines and peaking vocal interruptions, the sum of the parts just doesn't add up to anything to jump at. Lurking in the shadows of someone else's sound is creativity and imagination (it just doesn't fight its way out to the front). Should they take the leap to their own plateau, taking their ideas away from what already is, I would be interested to hear what happens. One other thing worth mentioning is the bizarre album cover, which sports a naked man.
