After a limited edition EP called "One For The Road", released only on their European tour, Trouble finally have their label disputes behind them & have signed to Century, releasing Plastic Green Head. Unfortunately (to me), as expected, the Beatles overtones are just as apparent as in 92's Manic Frustration. However, make no mistake, this is a Trouble album. With Bruce's Flying V & Rick's guitars, as well as Eric's voice, Trouble is often imitated, but never duplicated! Original drummer Jeff Olson has even returned. The 3rd song "Flowers" is one of the ones that most brings back an early (Psalm 9 & The Skull) sound. They make the classic Monkees "Porpoise-Song" their own, with the mix of Beatles meets Black Sabbath. While there's no doubt this is Trouble, the emphasis of Beatles influence is even greater this time. They even cover "Tomorrow Never Knows", from the bands favorite Beatles album Revolver. It reminds me a bit of Monster Magnet. This is also the loudest album, produced by Vincent Wojno (Machine Head, Kreator) who keeps it from sounding laid-back & mournful, but rather all instruments up front & in your face (listen to "Long Shadows Fall" & you'll know why Metallica was envious of their guitar tones). This is true even in the darker songs "Requiem" & "Flowers". "Another Day" is a song of hope in encouraging those who may weep with: "Come quickly Lord" that we should "never be afraid to die / cause (he'll) be waiting in the sky". "Till The End Of Time" is a bonus song that the European release won't have. Plastic Green Head isn't really a doom album, but nevertheless it's good loud rock 'n' roll.
