I expected a little more out of this cd. Not that it was bad, I just had abnormally high expectations for Within because of all the good things I had heard about them. To describe their sound, imagine a mix of Zao and Exist. Their music is not really anything innovative and original and their vocals didn't really impress me. They sound like the kind of band that would be really good live but happen to sound crappy when recorded. Also, for some reason the toms on the drums sound terrible on this recording. Every time the drummer hits one the entire cd just sounds horrible. Within has a couple of songs that I like but overall they have nothing that really grabs attention in any of their songs. I heard that they played at Cornerstone but they must have not been one of the scheduled bands because I totally missed their show and never even knew they played until a couple months after Cornerstone was over. I don't mean to say that Within is not good because they certainly aren't bad. I just get the impression that this cd does no justice for the band.

Dead Zine 2002Reviewed by Hey YouI like Sean Corbray's vocals a lot better in Within than in Embodyment. They are a lot more emotional. I like their unrefined approach to hardcore. They pull it off very well. While the music is not amazing, it's very good. The music fits the vocals very well. There are also some cool tribal drums thrown in periodically, reminiscent of Candiria. One thing I like about this album is that it's not…Similar sounding releases
