In the history of Christian Metal, I'd say there have been about three or four classically brutal albums that have paved the way for other bands and become true masterpieces in the process. This happens to be the case with Scrolls of the Megilloth. Never before in the Christian market has so brutal an album been released, and I don't know if any in the future could match it anyhow. This album differs from Mortification of a year earlier in the fact that gone are the thrash riffs and in is the brutally fast grindcore. My favorite track on this album is definitely the title track. It begins with a cool orchestral piece that lasts about two minutes and finally breaks down into the opening riff which slams you against the wall and never lets you off until the song ends. Most of the songs on this album begin as this one with mechanical or organ sounds then melt into the grindage. Another notable song is Necromanicide where, ironically, the band from Malaysia got its name. If you're a fan of later Mortification albums such as Bloodworld and EnVision EvAngelene, then this album might not be for you. But if dark and brutal metal is to your liking, you'd be missing out on a classic by not owning this one.

Dead Zine 2002Reviewed by NecRoSarXIn my humble opinion, this is the definitive Mortification album made. This is the album all the other Mortification albums since then have been judged by. Pure, unadulterated death metal played the way it should: hard, fast and continuously. Scrolls of the Megilloth was released in 1992 on the Intense label, but has recently been re-released along with their self-titled album (also a killer…Heaven's Metal #36Reviewed by Doug Van Pelt"Nocturnal" starts off this #2 release from Mortification with all the double-bass and driving rhythm section that Vengeance kicked out with tunes like "The Abyss." This stuff is so heavy! Fans of the gnarly end of Metal will eat up this slab of thick, meaty Death Metal. What's really cool about this song is it keeps building in intensity, almost throws you off a cliff, and then takes you there…
