Back in 1993 the rap rock band XL & Death Before Dishonor released Sodom and America on Word/Epic records. At that time, rapping in a rock band was novel, if not revolutionary. "I'm a hardcore, afro-rock,' hip hop rocker," vocalist XL (Todd Stevens) proclaimed on his band's debut. XL & DBD could be ranked in importance in the Christian market to the level of P.O.D., but unfortunately, after Sodom and America, XL & DBD pretty much vanished. XL and his family moved from LA to the midwest to "escape the madness and lifestyles they once lived." But after playing for the first time in five years at JesusFest '01, XL & DBD released the indie album, Live From Nineveh...What Next, in 2002. The new stuff is a more melodic incarnation of the band, which now features XL's brothers on bass and drums. Like Pillar's buff older sibling, XL & DBD make jumpy, hard rock with rapped and sung vocals.
