In the past, Andy Lyon has won a few awards for songwriting. On this four-song demo, Andy displays more of his talent for writing agreeable, cross-over style lyrics. However, the disappointing elements of this demo are evident in the music. Andy explains in his profile that he is aiming for both the Christian market and the secular market--a needed yet difficult service and task. It's not that the musicianship is awful, because Andy does offer a euphonious musical style (well, sometimes the lead vocals sound a little stuffy and the BGV's sound better than the leads). It's that the current secular market requires innovation and demands some sort of edge in the music; and Andy's Journey-style music lacks that certain element of freshness (Andy lists Journey as one of his musical influences and it's obvious in these songs). These guys have good intentions with their palatable and positive cross-over lyrics. However, if they are aiming for commercial recognitions and success, they need to consider the current musical trends and add some sort of edge to the music.
