These death metallers from Atlanta, Georgia have finally released their debut on compact disc. Lyrically, these guys couldn't be any closer to the truth. Check out "Prelife Vivisection." We get social issues of today brought with a death metal attack. "Covenant With Evil" has a great intro. This song is very self explanatory.
"Habitual Sacrifice" relates to those going to church and thinking that Heaven is right around the corner waiting at their convenience, doing whatever they want to do. God gave us a mission and it shouldn't be a "habitual sacrifice." The song "Shortway to Hell" has a few good changes, but the guitar and drums need to be a little tighter with each other.
"Past" is a little reminiscent of White Zombie, then it takes off into a double bass drum 16th note pattern that gets a little repetitive.
"Bloodshed" has a beautiful intro, but we've heard the rest of the song somewhere else. This is a very good, tight song. It's very Vengeance Rising-ish.
"SSORCTHGIRPUN4YHTROWNU," which is "Unworthy for an Upright Cross," has a great chorus "You've taken and perverted all that is holy/The cross that bought your salvation/Which you refuse to believe." It's very cool and very Crucified-ish. The album ends with a bang!
These dudes have definitely seen some hard times in their lives. Lyrically, they challenge me and they should challenge every young person out there. All of the songs are very well rounded, with great intros, good hooks; but, if I may, too much in the same draggy vein of conventional death metal. These guys can really etch a niche in the Christian metal music scene if they stopped trying so hard. Really good lyrics, but no one wants to be preached at. On a scale of one to ten (with 10 being the greatest) the guys deserve a strong seven.
