Surprise! Here is a metal band, made up of Christians, that have a major debut release on Megaforce/Atlantic Records! Out of Houston, Texas comes this band with a fresh style of metal and revealing lyrics. The bass player and lead vocalist has played bass for Morgan Cryar and is a known One Bad Pig fan (having been spotted at Pig shows). Do you doubt, my friend? Check out these lyrics: "See the bread, see the wine/ See the graft into the vine/ This is what is to be, it always made sense to me/ Send us a shot of love...sometimes my cup is empty/ My wish that it stay full, 'cause I am always thirsty/ I can't get enough of you/ There is nowhere else to go, there is nothing else to do/ There is nowhere else to turn/ The first and last is you..." Oh, ho! And the name of the album, Out of the Silent Planet, is the title of the first book of a space trilogy by C.S. Lewis. Say no more. The music is creative. Secular mags are raving over it. Kerrang! had a very favorable review, where they said "This is the future of metal...This band is going to be giant. You just watch." On lead vocals and bass is Doug Pinnick, who reminds me of the late Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy. Ty Tabor plays guitar, and Jerry Gaskil plays drums. Even though it's original, I can hear influences of Grand Funk Railroad and some of the new melodic metal out, like White Lion. This band is great. It looks like the band is taking the "U2 approach," by not labelling themselves as a Christian band. They're a band of Christians. Anything wrong with that? I think not, especially when you're still feeding your audience with as much truth as King's X do. Look for more on this band in the future here in Heaven's Metal. I can remember the days when White Throne's Dave Johnson used to ask me if I had any info on King's X. He had heard some reports about the existence of this band years ago, but I never found anything until now. I'm excited, and I think you will be too when you buy this album. (It comes in cd too!)
