The current Nonpoint is an evolved version of Nonpoint Factor, which once had a flicker of presence in the Christian market. Nonpoint's second MCA release, Development, finds the hard rock band ever-so-slightly more mellow and focused than on its 2000 aggro-heavy debut, Statement. Lead-vocalist, Elias Soriano, can pull off both the melodic and the heavy with great power and control. The rhythm section provides a solid backdrop to his pretty voice and the chunky guitar musings, but there is nothing too novel or profound about the total Nonpoint equation. Not to say that Development is just a nu-metal cliche. The album features well crafted rock songs, like "Your Signs," focusing more on weaving, rocking build-ups, and not so much on head splitting breakouts. Nonpoint has a unique voice, just not near the degree of say, Tool.
