This being the debut solo album of one of the founders/leaders of Mad At The World, my curiosity compelled me to check this out. To my surprise, this is nothing out of the techno-pop genre. What we have here is the perfect witnessing tool for all the Danzig fans out there. This 10-song album is the perfect example of what it would be like if ol' Glen Danzig got washed with the blood of Jesus. Sacrificium starts out with a cut called "Pain", which has a striking resemblance to "Twist Of Cain". Other cuts, like "Black Harvest", "Wicked Ways", "Walls Of Hate", and "Fire" just edify their way to your heart. The production, sound, and everything is pretty polished, but the only thing that it's lacking is originality--for the sake of being that not every Christian artist does not have to have a secular counterpart. Artistically, the lyrics on Sacrificium are creative, but play a great deal (actually a little too much) on the macbre. The arrangement, time changes and the vocal texture are even like Danzig's. For example, "Black Harvest" is very reminiscent to Samhain's (Glen Danzig's earlier band) "November Coming Fire". For me to totally get a better idea of Rose as a performer, I would like to see him live. But, until then, Sacrificium will be lost in my endless sea of tapes. What do you think, Doug? (I'm glad you asked that, Stephen--Ed.) Wow! I don't like his vocals, but the whole Danzig vibe here is pulled of well. My favorite cuts are the Doors-ish "Wicked Ways" and the crunch/grooves of "Black Harvest". "Marshmallow Land", taken from Seasons of Love and given the metal treatment, shows up here. One thing worth commenting on here is the cool patent-pending CD jewel cases Frontline is now using. Instead of the typical greenish-grey case back, this one is clear, allowing you to see another piece of art once you remove the CD from its seat.
