I've been a big fan of the Get Up Kids for a while now, and I was anxiously awaiting this new full-length for some time. The first time I heard it, I was kind of disappointed, though. Where was the emotion and raw power that was so prominent in the early 7"s and "Four Minute Mile"? But I WANTED to like it, so I kept on listening to it. And man, am I ever glad I did. "Emo" is almost a bad word today with a lot of kids, but I don't really care. This is definitely an emo record. There is more of a pop feel to "Something...," but lyrically they're as passionate as ever. Take the last few lines of the closing track, "I'll Catch You": "I'm still breaking old habits when you pulled the wool over me. I can see everything, remember 'Jinx Removing.' No Need for reminders...you're still all that matters to me." I can't help but love the Jawbreaker reference also. Anyone who has ever felt that weird feeling inside about someone else should buy this record and sing along.
