Cut The Crap

When Doug Van Pelt first asked me to review The Warning's Cut The Crap, he gave me the lyric sheet. I sat down, read it and was so impressed by the lyrical content and the writer's fervor that I was ready to write a review that made these guys look like the next Stryper or Amy Grant. However, after receiving the tape I decided to split the review into two categories: lyrical content; and musical production.
Lyrically this tape is great. It's blunt...for those of us who like being hit over the head with a blunt object. It speaks of repentance within the body of Christ; and that's for me, for you, and for The Warning, too.
Musically, this album is just not as tight as I had hoped it would be. It's just not together. The vocals are not exactly what I'd call "sweet" (No pun intended), however, they fit the speed metal style in intensity. Overall production is weak, yet redeemed periodically by creative guitar work.
I, myself, prefer lyrical content over musical production anyday, so I say "buy this tape." Maybe the next time you hear these guys, you'll get both. It's also available through Spring Arbor under the title: Cut The Garbage.
