Okay you might think that I'm giving this a good grade just because I put out their album. But I am truly trying to be as objective as possible.
This album is amazing. It's all catchy hook-rock that simply rocks out and has you singing along to most every song. Vroom used to be punk rock but fortunately they matured from that. They kept the catchy melodies but added guitar texture and layering. They added good song arrangement and they simply got better.
The songs are mature. Each song progresses and develops. No two minute songs here. The album with 12 songs clocks in at 55 minutes. Each song is different from one another making this album able to be listened to over and over - variety within their style.
John, the lead singer, has got one of the best voices around right now. Super strong and distinctive. He makes the melodies work. Tim's guitar parts are great. He almost never plays the same parts as the rhythm guitar. The drums are solid as well.
The production is great. There are a few spots where stuff could have been tightened up some. But hey, I could only afford eight days of recording. The tones are great and the mix couldn't be better. The guitars and bass totally blend and are loud. Also, the vocals aren't above the mix - which I am super happy about.
This one of three albums that top my list for best releases of the year. An album that totally rocks and that you can sing along to at the same time. You must own this album.
